ZSSK CARGO negotiated with representatives of Chinese railways

Representatives of Chinese Railways and the China National Development and Reform Commission visited Slovakia these days, where they are looking for opportunities for cooperation in the development of transport between China and the European Union.

As part of the development of cooperation between Slovakia and China, the rail freight transport is also important. Considering the capacity limits of the traditional northern corridor with entry into the EU through Poland and the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine, the Chinese side is trying to strengthen the transportation of cargo trains from China to Europe through the so-called Trans-Caspian Corridor ("Middle Corridor"), i.e. through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia/Turkey or across the Black Sea to Europe.

This new route shall be strengthened with the quality mark of China Europe Express. The Chinese side has ambitious expectations from this route for the future. We discussed the possibilities of cooperation with the Chinese delegation directly at ZSSK CARGO as well as at the Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic, which is also preparing an intergovernmental memorandum of understanding aimed at the development of China Europe Railway Express trains.

We believe that Slovakia has the potential to become one of the distribution hubs for these trains for the whole of Europe.
